Lifestyle Piece: The Power of Words
As of late, I have been discovering the importance of properly managing the external pressures I encounter. And with every passing day I feel myself growing into a better person… a more understanding person. For the first time in my life, I feel at ease with the sting of bitter change. The last three months have been hellish. The lost of contracting opportunities, piling bills, being stuck indoors, the demolition of social summer activities is enough to make anyone antsy. In the wake of these alterations to daily life, I have found it difficult to handle the emotional strain and deal with the melancholy associated with this pandemic. But like many others, I find myself in the middle of it nonetheless. So I made some adjustments to the way I communicate and it has inspired positively in my life and I hope it can do the same for you:
- Cleaning Up Language. Try not to curse. It feels good coming out but for some reason it’s negativity can hover in the air for days. It can only be described as a thick elusive fog that prevents you from clearly communicating with those you’re closest to.
- Cool Heads Prevail. Talking in a calm reassuring voice is really important. Yelling often gets us nowhere fast and causes a lot more problems than it solves. So when possible lower your voice and see if that makes a difference in how you feel and how others respond to you.
- Speak Life. The words that we utter from our mouths have just as much value as the words that never leave our lips. So be kind to yourself and only contemplate thoughts that fill you up inside. Sometimes our escape route from strife is just as much of a mental battle as it is physical.
- Don’t Bottle It Up. Keeping sadness and discomfort pinned up inside does little to make you feel better. Try talking out your issues with friends and family. You may be find other people are in the same mental space you find yourself in and feeling a little less alone goes a long way.
Words are dynamic tools that have the ability to enhance or reduce these moments. But you can keep refining their use to improve the quality of your world. Often, we can’t control the situations we find ourselves in… we can only control the way we react to them.
Have an awesome night ya’ll!
