Don’t Know You

Seeing you from a far
Every step closing the distance
Falling into your brown eyes like murky puddles
I draw closer to you like mosquitoes to light

Not afraid to get burned
Running from the darkness of night
I pull away only to find myself staring at you
Why do I think of you?

Only to come around you and say the wrong things
To think something deep
Then sink..
Into empty phrases

I grasp onto words like straws
Only to come up with the short end
Understanding that we’re in different places of our lives
But I’m still eager to let you in

Because your the other side of the pillow to me
Four flats on a Cadillac
And you riding passenger seat
Shallow like puddles but what we have is deep sea

It’s true
I don’t know you
And you don’t know me
Complicated things are never easy

Seeing you from a far
Every step closing the distance
Falling into your brown eyes like murky puddles
I draw closer to you like mosquitoes to light

Not afraid to get burned
Running from the darkness of night
I pull away only to find myself staring at you
Why do I think of you?

Only to come around you and say the wrong things
To think something deep

Only to come up with the short end
Understanding that we’re in different places of our lives
But I’m still eager to let you in

And you riding passenger seat
Shallow like puddles but what we have is deep sea

It’s true
I don’t know you
And you don’t know me
Complicated things are never easy

Love always, Ayesha
