I been running this race
Chasing after chase
White Nike’s, double knot on a crisp lace
I hit the track as soon as the whistle blew
I struggled to keep pace
With the person I once knew
I was neck in neck with her
Then I fell behind
Sweat poured from my brow
Definite stubborn tears trickled down
Aching calves
Sore thighs
But I ran day after day
I inched closer night after night
Where is my ambition?
Where is my fight?
While running this race against myself
That some call it life
But no matter the distance…
I won’t give up the fight
Sincerely, Ayesha
