Lil Mama

I dedicate this poem to my lovely Mother and friend.

Lil Mama

my Lil Mama is 4’10

but got enough strength to cave a head in

and got enough heart

to make a weak spirit bend

do yo thang gurl !

little lady in a crazy world

you the chauffeur, chef, accountant and ref

you strut like rubies are embedded

at the valley of your breasts

everyone in your acquaintanceship

associates your name with greatness

you are the snare drum hitting consistent beats

always steady for tapping feet,

always ready to strike

sustaining the pulse of the club throughout the night

you are the physician

when your child’s temperature is too high

you are the musician

when there is need for a lullaby

story time is heightened by trips

on magic carpet rides

you make rumbling bellies stop mid growl

negotiating the cost of living

while providing a sense of unification for the house

you are my father’s companion

and my best friend

my journey began staring into your slanted,

cinnamon spliced eyes

knowing that unfathomable love

lies on the other side

my Lil Mama is 4’10

but got enough strength to cave a head in

and got enough heart

to make a weak spirit bend

do yo thang gurl !

little lady in a crazy world

Thanks for reading! Love always, Esha ❤
