today, bitter unlearned sweat glistened
from hard temples coated in hurt and frustration
black, blue and red marker covered signs that said:
Black Lives Matter, Justice For George, We All Bleed The Same
speak to the distress we feel
the agony we see everyday and on TV
the inequity we swallow like chalky pills
the medicine they say, will make us better
but leave us ill
we turn a blind eye
till our neighbors dilemmas knock on our door
acknowledge the disfigurement of your brother in arms
and sin no more
take a stand against
false promises, injustice and coverups
invest in humanity’s gain
how can you be a citizen of a free country
when you ignore people in pain
tear gas can’t resolve truth stricken eyes
no visine can take the pink away
we believed in the obligation of officials
beholden by our tax dollars to rule over the multitude
following proclamations on blood soaked tablets
feeding frosted hatred to instinctive masses
come again…
with the truth in hand and correction afoot
come again…
with laws to protect those in need of protection
come again…
with more than broken promises made on the campaign trail
come again… so tomorrow will hold better gestures
than the soreness we experienced…
today, bitter unlearned sweat glistened
from hard temples coated in hurt and frustration
black, blue and red marker covered signs that said:
Black Lives Matter, Justice For George, We All Bleed The Same
