Carrying the Weight

Many people have suffered

Weighed down by generational curses

They never told a soul

Wearing a mask that covers the face

But provides no relief

An existence tormented by pain and misery

I once knew a man that bore the brunt

Of his family’s secrets

His body became contorted

His countenance was haggard

In one year, his body endured 60

His eyes went cold like ice

I search them but only found bottomless pits

How can a person live like this?

But life has to go on

No matter how dark the road gets

He remains strong

Using every art he knows…

I asked him, Why did he let his Mother control him?

He replied, She would cut him off if he ever changed.

So for fear of losing his family

He carried their blame

He embodied the shame

Sadness and tears attached to a beautiful name

Love always, Ayesha
