Punch Drunk Heart

What does a punch drunk heart know about love?

It feels without remorse

It beats without a care

Calm when your around

Then on edge when your not there

One minute up

The next down

A tryst comes

Romance goes

But the connection stays the same

Bathing in the sunshine

Soaking in the warmth of the rain

Trying against all odds

Racking the memories of a battered brain

Praying nonstop till your lips run out of words to say

Believing all night

Questioning all day

Wondering why old love fails to fade

It follows you through adulthood

It holds you close through old age

Like a vintage bottle of wine

The taste grows more robust and crisp with time

Turning into a flavor that’s too complex to define

What does a punch drunk heart know about love?

It feels without remorse

It beats without a care

Calm when your around

Then on edge when your not there

It roams like a hermit crab devoid of a shell

Wandering for acceptance

Looking for a peaceful place to dwell

Knowing that happiness is a hop, skip and jump away

But rarely getting over the hill

Even though it’s given up

It’s excited still

And that’s the nature of bruises

They’re made to heal

Love always, Esha ❤
