He called truth to power

now he speaks no more

mouth shot

straight to the head

hole in the chest

another Black man dead

could of told a lie

but he testified to the power

of racism instead

judge coddling the defendant aside

he was dead before he died

to a system that upholds prejudice

over the value of black lives

do you feel me?

we talk about neighborhood watch

but what if

the police is stalking you?

and they don’t like the things you  say

or the way you move

if you Black…

it ain’t about the attitude

you can serve a smile on a platter

and tap dance

till your feet turn blue

but that don’t mean

they won’t come for you

so don’t stop

keep fighting, striving and hustling

the promise of creating

a better day tomorrow is all we got
